Hips & Valleys

Hip Set Types

Hip systems and the names associated with them vary all over the country. No matter how they are framed or what they are called though, truss systems easily provide tremendous flexibility in the look of the roof system.

A Valley set is a group of trusses which sit on top of other trusses in order to change the way the roof looks. In the examples without valleys we would have a empty "hole" in the roof behing the girder. This would need either stick framing or a valley set.

The top chords of the trusses which the valley set sits on must be braced, either by plywood under the valleys, or alternate bracing.
